Azeol

Brief History

In 1954, the present administrator of Azeol, Mr. José Pereira Elias do Coito, initiated his activity in the commercial field, working for  10 years in a company in Caldas da Rainha.  In 1964 he established his own company under his own name, leaving his first warehouse at Rua dos Celeiros de Sta. Maria in Torres Vedras, with a total area of 21m2.

In 1966, these installations were transferred to Rua Capitão Luis Botto Pimentel, Nº 2, in Torres Vedras, increasing storage space to 76 m2.

Due to product acceptance, a new phase of expansion was initiated leading to a need of larger storage space.  Being so, the head quarters were transferred to Rua Brigadeiro Miranda Palha, N. 24, also in Torres Vedras, with a covered storage area of 387 m2.  The developing rythmn of the company, motivated by the good quality of its olive oil and others, imposed an ever growing need to respond to a competitive market.  In 1972, a new storage area was obtained at Rua Cândido dos Reis, N. 5 in Torres Vedras, with a total area of 428 m2.  A decisive turning point was achieved in 1975, in which the company José Pereira Elias do Coito passed onto a new phase:  Exportation was the main objective.  This required a new image leading to the formation of the company “Azeol- Sociedade de Azeites e Oleos da Extremadura, Lda.”, having as associates the present administrators, Mr. José Pereira Elias do Coito and wife, Mrs. Maria de Lurdes Azevedo Coelho Elias.

From this day onwards, the expansion of Azeol was a reality.  In 1976, a new warehouse was bought with a total area of 387 m2 at Rua da Electricidade N.1, Torres Vedras, and it is here where the storage and bottling of the oils take place.

The quality of the Azeol products stood up proudly in the market and naturally the sales were high.  The administrators were impelled to acquire another warehouse and a shop at Rua Candido dos Reis, N. 22, 22A, and 22 B where the sale and promotion of its products could be promoted.  They had about 570 m2 and 120 m2.  Presently, this is where packaging of all types of oils take place.

This is not where the story ends.  In 1987 a total area of 1500 m2 at Rua Candido dos Reis, N. 28 was bought, the largest area in the whole of Torres Vedras.  This warehouse is divided in 4 Sections:

1966 - Second warehouse

Third warehouse

1971 - Third warehouse

    1. Packaging
    2. Machine Maintenance
    3. Warehouse for packaged products, loading, weighing of various products on a 60 ton scale, with a rigorous control of the incoming and outgoing of products.
    4. Administrative and Sales sectors

Once again, Azeol felt the need for further expansion so as to correspond to market demand.  In 1988, the construction of “Edificio Azeol” (The Azeol Building) with a total area of 3.300 m2 was initiated.  It was completed in 1989.

This undertaking had its roots in the creation of infrastructures demanded by the market.  With a total area of 10.000 m2, investments never ceased thereon.  New packaging machinery was acquired leading the company to correspond both technically and productively to the most demanding markets.

Presently, Azeol is well equipped to correspond professionally to all world market expectations, no matter how demanding.
